24 Pounds Of Portable Goodness

The Osborne 01 (First available: 1981): It wasn't pretty, nor at 24 pounds, was it light. Nevertheless, with its all-in-one design and convenient carrying handle, the Osborne 1 became the first commercially successful portable computer. It featured a 5" 40 column monochrome screen, Zilog Z-80A processor, dual 5-1/4" floppy drives, 64k of RAM, and a 300-baud modem. Preinstalled software included the CP/M operating system, WordStar word processor, SuperCalc spreadsheet, and Cbasic and Mbasic programming languages. At the time, the Osborne 1 cost $1,795; today you can find it on eBay for about $150.
Just look at that guy's tie. I can't move that fast with a watch tied to my wrist.
Update (March 24, 2003): Only nine days after posting this, Adam Osborne has died in the Indian village of Kodiakanal at age 64. See the Reuters obit.
